Technical team visits BE-ST Centre

7 Oct, 2025

City Property’s Technical Services team recently took part in a visit to the BE-ST Centre, Scotland’s national innovation centre for construction and the built environment as part of the team’s ongoing learning around sustainability and best practice.

The visit to the BE-ST (Built Environment – Smarter Transformation) centre, followed the recent completion of the UK Green Building Course ‘Introduction to Sustainability in the Built Environment’ and enabled several members of the team to build upon their knowledge with a factory tour to gain insight into the innovative manufacturing of sustainable products, such as advanced insulation and cross-laminated timber, both important materials in modern, low-carbon construction.

In addition to the factory tour, the team learned about BE-ST’s role as a leader in sustainable development by supporting the creation of new, eco-friendly building solutions and products, helping to push the industry forward.  A key part of the visit focused on the construction details of the BE-ST retrofit centre to  examine the construction and services retrofitted to achieve an EnerPHit rating — a quality standard for energy efficiency in retrofitted buildings.

Geraldine Quigley,  Technical Services Manager at City Property commented:

The team thoroughly enjoyed the tour which provided a valuable look at how products are manufactured to contribute to a greener built environment as well as  insight into how BE-ST is helping to push the industry forward.

The learnings from this visit will enable the team to deliver innovative services in future, as well as helping to optimise the benefit and sustainability of our own property assets”
